On the auspicious occasion of Sri Purandara Dasa Aradhana (Pushya Bahula Amavasya – 23 January 2012), I am uploading five compositions of the greatest ever Haridasa, in Kannada and English scripts.
Sri Jagannatha Dasa, one of the greatest Haridasas and the author of “Harikathamruthasara” was initially a staunch opposer of the Hari Dasa system and had even called the great Vijaya Dasa a mere “singer of Kannada songs”.
The song Pavamana Jagada Prana by Sri Vijaya dasaru is one of my all time favorites. Especially in the voice of Sri Puttur Narasimha Nayak. Simply enchanting and captivating. Since a few months now, my little brother has got into the habit of putting this CD as soon as he gets up. Its almost a daily routine now to begin my day listening to this wonderful composition.
I managed to capture the song in a pdf document today. I have uploaded the same to my mantras page.
Sri Purandaradasa, one of the foremost exponents of the Haridasa tradition, is said to have composed over 4,00,000 Padas (songs), almost all of them in praise of Lord Vishnu!
